The Paperboy
Written and Illustrated by Dad Pilkey

Realistic Fiction

Waking up early for a job can be tiring and cold. But would you want to be around the age of ten? As young as the paper boy is, he gets up at the crack of dawn with his dog every morning. And just like an adult, he gets up and does his job no matter how he feels.

The illustrations are paintings of everyday houses. The lines are small and large which helps the image appear to be popping off the screen.  The colors are vibrant and they fade into a soft color of the same color. The paint is smudged into shapes.

I chose science as my content area and first grade for my grade. I would have the children create a timeline for the boy, in order of how his day goes.  They would start with the moment he wakes up and then finish with the end of the day. Then I would talk to the children about how hard it can be for other students. This lesson would be channeled to being kind!
